Fuasi Abdul Khaliq Sextet aka “THE JAZZ PHOENICIANS”:
Fuasi Abdul Khaliq, Christian Grabandt, Erik Unsworth, Eric Vaughn, Kelvin Sholar and Rob Gutowski.
Sholar and band appear in a scene at Marseilles Bob’s Jazz Club with Benicio del Toro, Richard Ayoade, Aysha Joy Samuel, Riz Ahmed and Mathieu Amalric. The band performs Dizzy Gillespie’s “A Night In Tunisia” and Sholar’s arrangement of Gerry Mulligan’s “Mud Bug”- which is included in the official film’s soundtrack. The band can be seen in the film trailer, featurette, behind the scenes and B Roll.
Benicio del Toro says: “And I love (the) music. It’s different, I think, from other Wes Anderson movies: more somber and orchestral.”
ANBKCO: “To bring the film’s lively cabaret scenes to life, Poster and Anderson enlisted a group of musicians from Berlin’s vibrant jazz scene. Led by Los Angeles-born multi-instrumentalist and composer Fuasi Abdul-Khaliq, and credited as the Fuasi Abdul-Khaliq Sextet, the ensemble recorded Jerry Horowitz’s “Mud Bug” specifically for the film and appears onscreen as the swing band, bringing a dynamic energy to the soundtrack.”
